Eric Peterman Signs with Bears

The 2009 NFL draft was this weekend and although the Bears didn't have a first or second round pick they had some steals in the later rounds. Also they signed former Northwestern player Eric Peterman as a free agent. Right now he will probably be a third string guy but the Bears are weak at the wide reciever postition so hopefully Eric will work hard and move up the depth charts and maybe get some playing time next year. We'll just have to wait and see.

Some other former Wildcats drafted were runningback Tyrell Sutton was signed with the Packers and John Gill was signed with the Lions.

NU Can't Top Ohio State

The NU basketball played today in what had been labeled as the biggest game in Northwestern basketball history. They played the Ohio State Buckeyes and if the won the would perhaps have sealed a bid to the NCAA tourney, for the first time in NU history. Unfortunately the Cats came out flat and trailed 25-15 at halftime. They roared back in the second half and took the lead at one point but Ohio State held on and won 53-48. Although the Cats lost the game they are not 100 percent out of the NCAA tourney. If they won the Big Ten tournament they won get an automatic bid, but that is quite a long shot. Hopefully the Cats will pull off a miracle and get it done.

Slumping Cats Need To Turn Season Around

After three huge wins two weeks ago against Michigan State, Minnesota, and Wisconsin the Northwestern basketball team has been in somewhat of a slump. The lost last week to Iowa in a game that Iowa hit 17 three-pointers. The Cats played well in this game but Iowa was on fire and NU could stop their three point attack. Then the Cats hosted their instate rival, the Illini, and the lost on a last second second shot. NU led the whole game against Illinois except for the final 2.9 seconds. They had a fourteen point lead, but Illinois went on a 17-2 run to end the game. It was a heartbreaking loss for both Nu fans and players. Then to make matters worse, yesterday the Cats played a mediocre Michigan team and lost yet again.

The only real hope for Northwestern to make the NCAA tourney is to win the Big Ten Tournament in late February. Hopefully this slump can be ended and the Cats will get back on track.

Cats Basketball Season Off To A Good Start

The Northwestern Wildcats Basketball season is about halfway over and the Cats are 12-7. This has been a great improvement from previous years of NU basketball. The Cats have had a couple huge wins this year such as beating #23 ranked Minnesota and #7 ranked Michigan State. Hopefully the team can keep it up and when it comes time for March Madness they could be recieving the first ever bid.

Last Night the Cats had a big game in Evanston against the Wisconsin Badgers. It was a close game throughout but the Cats pulled of a 66-63 win in the end. The NU team was led by an unbelievable performance by senior guard Craig Moore who had 26 point and was 8 for 8 from the freethrow line in the closing seconds to secure the victory. Also Northwestern got a great game out of Jeremy Nash who always play great defense, but also added nine points from the Cats.

The Cats now take a game off from Big Ten play and host Chicago State. Hopefully this will be a game for the Cats to get their legs back and prepare for their next opponent, Iowa.

Northwestern Basketball Underway

With the Northwestern football season coming to a close, the NU basketball team is starting up. In the past the Cats have not had a very strong basketball program, but this year they're off to an excellent start. They currently have a 7-2 record and are looking strong. Northwestern historically has not had a very big team but this year they have some good size with 7 foot freshman Kyle Rowley. Other key players for NU are guard Craig Moore and forward Kevin Coble. If the Cats keep playing like they are now they have a great chance to make some noise in the Big Ten.

Northwestern Bowl Bid Announced

After the Northwestern Wildcats finished their regular season 9-3 they waited for two weeks for the rest of college football to finish the season and fid out which bowl they would be in and who they would play.

Well the wait is finally over and the Cats will take on Missouri in the Alamo Bowl. Many NU fans were upset by this bid because they thought they deserved a higher bid. I personally was happy with this because my sister goes to Missouri so I think there should be some good family rivalry.

Be sure to watch the last Cats game this season on December 29th.

Ohio State Not Classy

Two weeks ago Northwestern hosted the Ohio State Buckeyes. The past 3 years Ohio State had won by a margin of 128-40. The turnout for this game was looking to be the same considering Northwestern starting quarterback, leading tackler, 1st and 2nd string running backs were injured. But Northwestern came out strong and the score was only 21-10 in the Buckeyes favor at half time. The hung on and didn't let the score get too far away from them and it was 31-10 with 7 minutes left in the 4th quarter. The game was virtually over and Northwestern put in a lot of their second and third string players to get them some playing time.
Ohio State had the ball 4th and 15 and was getting ready to punt. But instead of punting they did a fake and picked up the first down and on the next play threw a long pass for a touchdown. If you know anything about football this is a very unclassy move and some of the NU fans were getting a little rowdy.
The score was now 38-10 and the game was for sure over now but once again Ohio State decided to be jerks and with 6 seconds left in the game they scored another touchdown. This was like a big unnecessary kick in the genital region. Ohio State is a very unclassy team and they should receive some sort of sanction from the Big ten for this type of behavior.
